What is CâtAFost?

A price history and analytics service for products sold on eMAG that tells you when a price gets where you want it. We don't sell products or process payments: you always buy on eMAG.

Is the service affiliated with eMAG?

No. CâtAFost is an independent service, not operated by eMAG and not paid commission on purchases.

How up to date is the data?

Accepted Answer

The data is updated regularly; tracked products and those whose price just changed are checked more often. A product whose alert is paused is checked like an untracked one, with no priority; once you resume the alert, it is checked more often again. Next to every price you see when it was last checked; eMAG may have changed it since. In search and categories, the "Only prices checked in the last 7 days" filter hides offers not checked for over a week.

Why can the price differ from eMAG?

The price can change between the last data update and the moment you open the eMAG page. Always confirm the final price before buying.

Can I rely on the data when buying?

The data is informational. We take care over its accuracy, but we do not guarantee that it is complete or current at every moment. The purchase decision is yours; always check the final price on eMAG.

Where do I send questions or claims?

What's the difference between a price change and a claimed discount?

Accepted Answer

A price change (for example "Last price change") shows how the seller's real price changed, as we observed it. The claimed discount compares the current price to an old or recommended price shown by eMAG — the two don't always match, and an "old" price may never have been charged.

Question 8

What are the "typical price" and the verdict on the product page?

Accepted Answer

The typical price is the middle price over the last 90 days, weighted by time: half the time the product was cheaper, half the time dearer. The verdict compares today's price with it: below typical, near typical or above typical. Products with a short history get no verdict.

I saw a strange price once. Why is it not in the minimum?

Accepted Answer

A reading that jumps sharply and is not confirmed by the data that follows is not taken as a price, and never becomes the lowest price on record or the peak of a drop. A change confirmed by several consecutive readings is accepted.

Why does the chart have steps instead of slanted lines?

Accepted Answer

A price stays the same until it changes, so the chart shows exactly that: a step at the moment of change. Out-of-stock stretches don't move the price and don't erase the drop before them.

Why does a product have several sellers, and which price is shown?

The same product can be sold by several merchants, each with their own price and stock. Lists and the header show the offer you would pick: in stock, new, then the one you track and the cheapest. All offers are in the table on the product page.

What are used offers?

The same product sold second hand or resealed. They are marked separately, have their own history and do not mix with new offers in alerts unless you choose so.

How do I add a missing product?

Paste the eMAG product link into the search box. If the product is already known it opens at once; if not, it is added and its page opens by itself, usually within a minute.

Why does a category show fewer products than eMAG?

The number next to a category counts the products currently in stock with at least one seller. Categories with nothing in stock are not listed.

What do the "Drop from its recent high price" and "Lowest price on record" filters do?

Accepted Answer

"Drop from its recent high price, still on" keeps products whose price went down by at least 2% and 1 RON from a recent high, with the last change within 30 days, and still at the lower price. "Last price change: drop (%)" keeps products whose last price change was a drop of at least the amount you choose. "Lowest price on record" shows products priced now at the lowest price ever recorded for them.

Why is a big drop from a while ago no longer shown as a drop?

A drop from its recent high price stays shown while the product is in stock at the lower price, and for at most 30 days after the last price change. If the price has not changed for over 30 days, the lower price has simply become the current price and is no longer treated as a discount. The chart and the history on the product page still show the drop.

What's the difference between Saved and Alert?

Saved (the star) puts the product on your list, no notifications. An Alert means you set at least one condition and will be told when it is met. It is the same record: an alert can be turned back into Saved at any time.

Which conditions can I set?

Accepted Answer

A target price (simple mode), plus a drop from the previous price by a given percentage, a price below typical by a given percentage and choosing sellers (advanced mode). Back in stock and the lowest price on record can be ticked in both modes. Conditions can be combined. All of them need an account except the target price: without an account, the target price is kept in your browser and, when the price reaches it, you see a notification only on the site, in this browser.

Does an alert watch new or used offers?

Accepted Answer

You choose: new only (the default), used only, or either, in which case the cheaper of the two is used. You can also limit an alert to certain sellers. With "new" a low used price never bothers you.

Why didn't I get a notification although the price dropped?

Accepted Answer

The usual reasons: the alert is paused; the watched offer is not from your sellers or not of the chosen kind; the price stayed below the target after the first notification (we notify again only after it rises above the target and drops below it again; if the price was already below the target when you created the alert, you get one notification, at the first check); a notification for the product was already sent within the last day.

What can I do without an account?

Accepted Answer

You can search, browse categories and see the history over a shorter horizon. You can save a few products in your browser, with a target price: when the price reaches it, you see a notification only on the site, in this browser. The other conditions, the full history and notifications in your account need a free account.

How do the plans differ?

A free account has the full history, alerts and on-site notifications. Pro and Business add more tracked products, updating a product on request, download of the complete history and filters by typical price. Details and prices will be on the subscription page.

Why do I see a message that I hit a limit?

Accepted Answer

Some actions (searching, adding, sign-in attempts) are limited so the service stays fast for everyone. Try again a little later or create an account.

Question 26

How do I delete my account and data?

Accepted Answer

From your profile page, after confirming your password. The account, tracked products, alerts and notifications are deleted at once.
